Granular synthesis has for a long time been an integral technique used by sampler and synthesis fanatics everywhere. It’s a powerful technique where a “grain” or small snippet of a sample is used as the base sound or waveform of a larger sounding synthesizer preset, typically made with a digital sampler or granular synthesizer. The methods vary a bit depending on which you’re using, but they largely start from the same place- using a tiny bit of sound to create a larger, more complex sound. In this video I’ll show you how to do granular synthesis on the Isla Instruments S2400.
It’s important to note that this machine, while it’s incredible in all that it can do and how it sounds, is still in the early stages of firmware development and many people still haven’t received their units, so over time the methods used in this video may change and need to be updated. I’ll make sure to stay on top of this and make new videos as the machine grows and progresses.
For now, this should help you get started making completely original-to-you sounds and your productions sounding fresh and unique. Enjoy!
